RTM billing report

Monthly RTM billing readiness by monitoring days and management time. MSK device supply: 98985 (2-15 days) or 98977 (16-30 days); treatment management: 98979 / 98980 / 98981.

📋 RTM code & reimbursement reference — 2026 CMS PFS national averages
CPT What it’s for When you can bill 2026 avg
98975Initial setup + patient education on the deviceOnce per episode of care (needs ≥2 monitoring days)$21.71
98985 NEWMSK device supply — 2–15 days of dataOnce per 30-day period$40.08
98977MSK device supply — 16–30 days of dataOnce per 30-day period$40.08

Live contact required: the management codes (98979 / 98980 / 98981) require at least one real-time phone or video interaction with the patient each calendar month. Texts, chat, and emails do not count toward that requirement.
• Device codes are mutually exclusive — bill 98985 (2–15 days) or 98977 (16–30 days), never both in a 30-day period.
• Management base codes are mutually exclusive — 98979 (10–19 min) or 98980 (20+ min); 98981 only stacks on 98980.
• Only one clinician bills RTM per patient per 30-day period; RTM and RPM cannot both be billed in the same month.
• Figures are 2026 national averages (non-facility); actual payment varies by locality (GPCI), MAC, and payer.
